CHASING THE PHANTOM OF BIOGENIC HYDROCARBONS IN THE BLACK SEA
From June 2014 to January 2016, 7 exploration wells were drilled in the deepwater of Romania (block Neptune). To date, the drilling data are being evaluated with respect to hydrocarbon potential. In August this year, the well was plugged in the deep waters of Bulgaria (block Khan Asparuh) without announcing any details. All wells have been spud according to the tenets of the biogenic concept of the hydrocarbons origin. Based on generalization of literary sources, the article shows that there is no enough biogenic methane in the Black Sea to form large industrial accumulations of oil and gas.
Keywords: Romania, Bulgaria, deepwater blocks, abiogenic methane.
