MODERN DEPOSITS OF RIVERS AND RUNNING
GULLIES IN THE KRYVYI RIH BASIN: COMMON
FEATURES AND SIGNIFICANT DIFFERENCES

The conducted study revealed significant natural differences in the granulometric, chemical, and mineralogical composition of bottom sediments in the rivers and running gullies of the Kryvyi Rih basin.
It was established that the activities of mining and metallurgical enterprises have altered the natural
composition of bottom sediments in the thalwegs of gullies and rivers in the region. Considerable pollution by the byproducts of mining and processing plants and disruption of the natural ecosystem were identified. It was found that the natural-technogenic sediments of gullies, in comparison to river alluvium, are more enriched with both natural and anthropogenic iron-bearing minerals, making them promising for the production of ore concentrates in line with circular economy principles.

Keywords: active gullies, bottom sediments, environmental pollution, industrial waste recycling, circular economy.
