GEOGRAPHICAL INFORMATION SYSTEM FOR THE LOCATION OF AN UNKNOWN PLACE AND TIME OF MAP COMPILATION 
Design of GIS for automatic analysis and determination of date and location of drawing up the portolan charts without these attributes is proposed. Principles of comparison maps are described and list of basic elements is provided. Classification of elements of portolan chart when compare is proposed. Examples of comparison of these charts by coefficient identity for place names based on the existing database are listed. Problems of international cooperation to study of portolan charts, necessity in founding a system of international grants are considered. Proposed system of analysis may be used to other types of research.
