On March 5, 2021, Oleksiy Yuriyovych Mytropolsky passed away – a well-known in Ukraine and abroad scientist in the field of marine geology, geochemistry and geoecology, Doctor of Geology Sciences, Professor, Corresponding Member of the NAS of Ukraine, Head of the Department of Modern Marine Sedimentogenesis (1987-2015), Deputy Director of the Institute of Geological Sciences of the NAS of Ukraine (1992-2015), Chairman of the Specialized Council at the IGN NAS of Ukraine for the Defense of Doctoral and Candidate's Dissertations, Editor-in-Chief of the Scientific and Technical Journal "Environmental Ecology and Life Safety", President of the All-Ukrainian Charitable Foundation "Geoeco - XXI Century" (1999-2011).

The bright memory of Oleksiy Yuriyovych Mytropolsky – a recognized scientist, researcher, great optimist, lover of life – will forever remain in the hearts of those who were lucky enough to work with him, learn from him, be there.
